This heart-shaped artificial lake sits in the lower town of Antananarivo, ringed by jacaranda trees that bloom lilac each spring. At its centre stands a small island crowned by a black angel monument honouring Malagasy soldiers who died in the First World War. The lake is a popular walking spot for residents and a focal point of the administrative district, with government buildings and the railway station nearby. In early morning, mist often lingers over the water while flower vendors set up along its shaded margins.

Where next?

The world is wide open.
