Kinaxixi is a major square and district in central Luanda, historically a marketplace and transport hub and a focal point of the growing city. It is marked by the Monument to the Heroine Mother, a bronze statue commemorating Angolan mothers and the sacrifices of the independence struggle. In recent decades the surrounding area has been transformed by high-rise commercial development, reshaping one of the capital's oldest crossroads. The square remains a busy urban node and a landmark for orientation within the dense centre of the city.
