The Bingu National Stadium on the outskirts of Lilongwe is Malawi's largest sports venue, built with Chinese support and named after President Bingu wa Mutharika. The modern arena hosts the national football team's home matches, athletics and major public gatherings, and forms part of the capital's growing infrastructure. Its curved roof and tiered stands are a landmark on the road out of the city. Beyond sport, the stadium is used for national celebrations and rallies, making it a focal point of civic and cultural life in contemporary Malawi.
