The National Heroes' Acre is a monument and burial ground on a hillside west of central Harare where Zimbabweans recognised for their contribution to the liberation war are interred. Designed with North Korean help, it centres on a tall obelisk, an eternal flame and a bronze Tomb of the Unknown Soldier flanked by heroic figures. Large friezes depict scenes from the armed struggle against colonial rule. State funerals and Heroes' Day commemorations take place here each year, and the terraced site offers panoramic views toward the capital.
