The country's principal museum and art gallery, in central Gaborone, presenting the natural history, archaeology and cultures of the nation. Its displays include San rock-art reproductions, traditional dwellings, crafts and wildlife dioramas alongside changing art exhibitions. Founded in 1968, shortly after independence, it has led efforts to preserve and interpret national heritage. The grounds hold historic vehicles and open-air exhibits, and it remains a key cultural centre in the capital.
