A granite memorial to the colonial statesman Cecil Rhodes set on the slopes of Devil's Peak above the University of Cape Town. Completed in 1912 and designed by Herbert Baker, it takes the form of a classical temple approached by a long flight of steps flanked by bronze lions. A statue of a mounted rider and a bust of Rhodes complete the ensemble, which commands a wide view eastward across the Cape Flats. The surrounding pine forest and grassland on Table Mountain National Park make it a popular walking and picnic destination.
