The National Museum of Guinea, or Musée national de Sandervalia in Conakry, preserves the ethnographic and artistic heritage of the country's many peoples. Its collection includes masks, statuary, musical instruments, textiles and ritual objects from the Fouta Djallon, forest and coastal regions. The museum, in a colonial-era building near the seafront, traces the traditions of the Fula, Malinke, Susu and Kissi among others. Modest in size, it offers a valuable introduction to Guinean culture in the heart of the capital.
