The Kennedy Bridge is the first road bridge built across the Niger River at Niamey, opened in the 1970s and long the principal link between the two banks of the capital. Its span carries the main traffic artery over the broad river, offering views of pirogues, fishermen and the riverside gardens below. For decades it was a defining structure of the city and a symbol of its modernisation. Popular at dusk, the bridge and its embankments provide one of the finest vantage points over the Niger and the Sahelian sky.
