The Grand Marché of Niamey is the central market of Niger's capital, a large commercial complex rebuilt after a fire and topped with a distinctive tower. It gathers thousands of traders selling textiles, spices, silverwork and imported goods, drawing customers from across the city and the surrounding Sahel. The market is a centre for the celebrated Tuareg and Hausa craft traditions of leather and silver. Busy from dawn, it forms the commercial hub of Niamey and a lively showcase of the region's artisanal wares.
