The national museum of the Gambia in central Banjul presents the history, ethnography, and archaeology of the small West African nation. Exhibits cover the region's peoples, traditional musical instruments, the trans-Saharan and Atlantic trades, and the colonial era under British rule. Artefacts include masks, textiles, and photographs documenting Gambian society across the centuries. Modest in scale but informative, the museum offers a useful orientation to the country's cultural landscape, near Arch 22 and other central landmarks.
