Housed within the kasbah crowning the Sousse medina, this museum holds one of the finest collections of Roman mosaics in Tunisia after the Bardo. Its rooms display vivid floor mosaics of mythological scenes, marine life and gladiatorial combat lifted from villas and tombs around ancient Hadrumetum. Early Christian and Punic material rounds out the collection. The fortress setting, with views over the old town and sea from the ramparts, adds to the appeal. For visitors to the Sahel coast, it is an essential complement to the medina's monuments.
