This historic mosque in the old town of Constantine dates to the Ottoman period and served for centuries as the principal place of worship in the cliff-top city. Its prayer hall of columns and arches sits within a dense quarter of stepped lanes and traditional houses. Restored several times, it preserves carved detailing and a minaret that rises above the surrounding rooftops. As a fixture of the historic core, it complements the newer Emir Abdelkader mosque and helps anchor the religious heritage of a city famous for its dramatic gorges.
