The state mosque of Qatar in Doha, one of the largest in the country, able to accommodate tens of thousands of worshippers across its halls and courtyards. Built in a restrained sand-coloured style with many domes and a tall minaret, it serves as the principal congregational mosque of the capital. The vast prayer hall is finished with patterned carpets and calligraphic decoration. Named for an influential religious reformer, it functions both as a working place of worship and as a national religious landmark for major occasions.
