A funicular railway in central Baku that climbs from the seaside boulevard area up to the highland park where the Flame Towers and the Alley of Martyrs stand. First opened in the 1960s and later modernised, the short line spares visitors a steep walk up to the ridge overlooking the city. From the upper station broad views open over the old city, the bay and the Caspian Sea. The funicular has become a convenient and popular way to reach the elevated viewpoints and monuments above the capital.
