The ruins of a large early medieval cathedral in the Sagarejo district of eastern Georgia, one of the oldest domed churches in the country. Dating from the sixth century, it was a bold architectural experiment for its time, though much of the structure later collapsed, partly from earthquakes. The surviving walls and apses, along with a later bell tower and bishop's residence, stand within a walled compound. The site remains an important monument in the study of early Georgian church design and attracts visitors interested in its antiquity.
