A pedestrian bridge over the Mtkvari River connecting the old town of Tbilisi with Rike Park, opened in 2010 as a piece of contemporary architecture in a historic setting. Designed by an Italian architect, its curving steel-and-glass canopy is fitted with thousands of LEDs that produce a nightly light display. The bow-shaped structure offers open views toward Narikala fortress and the Metekhi cliff. Its bold modern form initially divided local opinion but it has become one of the most photographed sights in the capital.
