A monumental aluminium statue of a woman standing on the Sololaki ridge above the old town, erected in the 1950s to mark the 1,500th anniversary of Tbilisi. Known in Georgian as Kartlis Deda, the figure holds a bowl of wine in one hand to greet friends and a sword in the other to warn enemies, symbolising the national character. Reaching roughly twenty metres in height, it is a prominent landmark on the city skyline. The surrounding ridge, close to Narikala, offers wide views over the capital and the river below.
