The ceremonial lagoon and gardens surrounding the golden-domed grand mosque form one of the most recognisable landmarks of the Bruneian capital. A stone replica of a 16th-century royal barge sits in the artificial lagoon before the mosque, mirrored in the still water. Landscaped grounds, fountains, and marble walkways frame the building, which rises above the low skyline of the city centre. The setting, especially when floodlit after dark, is among the most photographed scenes in the country and a focus of civic and religious life.
