The Putra Mosque is the principal place of worship of Malaysia's planned administrative capital, its rose-tinted granite dome mirrored in an adjacent lake. Completed at the turn of the millennium, it draws on Persian and Middle Eastern architectural traditions, with a soaring minaret and a prayer hall able to hold thousands. The mosque sits on a grand civic plaza beside the prime minister's office, forming the ceremonial centre of the city. Its waterfront setting and pink hue make it one of the most photographed buildings in the country.
