The largest and oldest public park in Colombo, Viharamahadevi Park spreads across landscaped grounds near the National Museum and city centre. Laid out during the colonial period and later renamed after a legendary queen, it features mature trees, flowering beds, a lake and a golden seated Buddha statue. Families come for its playgrounds, walking paths and open lawns, and it provides welcome shade in the tropical heat. Its combination of gardens, monuments and recreational space makes it a central green retreat within the busy capital.
