The national mausoleum of Muhammad Ali Jinnah stands on a raised platform in central Karachi, its white marble cube crowned by a curved dome that has become an emblem of the city. Completed in the 1960s in a spare modern interpretation of Islamic design, it houses the tombs of Jinnah and several other national figures, including his sister Fatima Jinnah. A ceremonial guard is stationed at the entrance, and surrounding gardens and fountains create a solemn public space.
