A wide, sheltered sandy bay on the southern coast of Hong Kong Island, long favoured as the city's most fashionable beach and lined with luxury apartments. Backed by green hills, its gentle crescent of sand ends at a small temple plaza crowded with colourful statues of Tin Hau, Kwun Yam, and other deities beside a lucky longevity bridge. Bathers, families, and lifeguard-patrolled waters make it a popular summer escape a short drive from the city centre. A colonnaded heritage building recalls the grand hotel that once stood on the shore.
