One of Japan's oldest public parks, established in 1873 on land carved from the grounds of the great temple beside it, this green expanse wraps around Tokyo Tower and preserves an ancient earthen burial mound among its lawns and old trees. Its paths give some of the most celebrated views of the tower rising above the treetops, and the mix of temple buildings, playing fields, and quiet corners makes it a popular spot for a break in the busy district. The historic grounds link the modern landmark with centuries of religious history.
