A memorial temple and tomb on the northwestern shore of Hangzhou's West Lake honoring Yue Fei, the Song general revered as a patriot for resisting northern invaders before his unjust execution. Rebuilt many times since the twelfth century, the complex centers on a hall containing his painted statue beneath a plaque proclaiming loyalty, and a garden tomb guarded by stone figures. Kneeling iron statues of the officials who betrayed him remain a target of visitors' scorn. Travelers pay respects at the grave and stroll the lakeside grounds.
