One of the oldest comprehensive university museums in China, founded in the early twentieth century and now attached to Sichuan University in Chengdu. Its wide-ranging collection spans archaeology, ethnography, folk art, ceramics, textiles and religious sculpture drawn largely from southwestern China and Tibet. Galleries display shadow-puppet figures, stone carvings, embroideries and everyday objects documenting the region's diverse peoples. Students and visitors browse the quiet halls to trace the material culture of Sichuan and its frontier.
