One of the grandest of the auberges built to house the langue divisions of the Order of St John, this Baroque palace served the knights of Castile, León and Portugal. Its dramatic curved facade, remodelled in the 18th century, is a highlight of Maltese Baroque and dominates a small square at the city's high point. The building today serves as the office of the Prime Minister of Malta, so the interior is generally closed to the public. The exterior stonework and monumental doorway remain a popular subject for photographers.
