Despite its name, this colourful complex in eastern Moscow is a modern cultural centre built in the early 2000s in the style of old Russian architecture, with wooden towers, painted facades and fairy-tale roofs. It adjoins the sprawling Izmailovsky flea and craft market, one of the best places in the city to browse matryoshka dolls, lacquerware, Soviet memorabilia and antiques. Small museums devoted to bread, vodka and folk crafts occupy its photogenic buildings.
