Tucked among office buildings near Kitay-gorod, this small seventeenth-century church is a jewel of Moscow's ornamental Russian architecture, with tiered white detailing, a tent-roofed porch and richly carved window surrounds against warm red walls. Built by a wealthy merchant family, its interior preserves vivid frescoes attributed to leading icon painters of the era, including Simon Ushakov. The layering of gables and kokoshnik arches shows the decorative exuberance of the period.
