This is the oldest public park in Chisinau, laid out in the early nineteenth century as the city expanded and named after the medieval prince whose statue guards its entrance. Straight, tree-lined alleys radiate across the leafy square, passing an alley of busts of writers, a fountain and benches shaded by mature limes and chestnuts. Bordered by the cathedral park, government buildings and the main boulevard, it forms the green social heart of the centre. Residents and visitors stroll and rest here, especially in the heat of summer.
