This bronze statue at the entrance to the central park of Chisinau honours the medieval prince regarded as the country's greatest historical ruler, shown holding a cross and sword. Erected in the interwar period, the monument was hidden and moved several times through decades of political upheaval before returning to its place. Today it is a focal point for national ceremonies, standing at the gateway to the tree-lined park that carries the ruler's name.
