Perched on a hill above the old streets of Zemun, this brick lookout tower was raised at the end of the nineteenth century to mark a millennium of Hungarian presence in the region. Blending elements of medieval and eclectic styles, it stands amid the remnants of an older fortress overlooking the Danube. A viewing gallery near the top surveys the river, the rooftops of Zemun, and the distant towers of central Belgrade. The surrounding lanes of low houses and vineyards give the quarter its old-world charm.
