Roosevelt Square is a formal green space in central Zagreb framed by grand institutional buildings and shaded by mature trees. Laid out during the city's Austro-Hungarian expansion, the square anchors the western reach of the lower town and provides a calm foreground to the imposing former school that houses a major art collection. Wide walkways, flower beds, and monuments make it a favoured spot for strolling. Its symmetry and stately facades typify the planned nineteenth-century grid that gives central Zagreb its character.
