The Czech Museum of Silver in Kutna Hora preserves the mining heritage that once made the town one of the wealthiest in medieval Bohemia. Housed in the Gothic Hradek fortress, the museum leads visitors on guided descents into a genuine medieval silver mine, where narrow shafts illustrate the harsh conditions of ore extraction. Above ground, exhibitions display coins minted here, mining tools, and models of the extensive underground workings. The town's silver funded royal ambitions and built its celebrated churches.
