STAM – Ghent City Museum

Set within a former abbey and hospital complex, this museum tells the story of Ghent from its origins to the present day. Exhibits combine medieval buildings with modern galleries, and a highlight is a large aerial photograph of the city laid across the floor that visitors walk over to trace its growth. Maps, models, paintings and everyday objects illustrate the shifts in trade, industry and daily life. The tranquil cloisters and gardens of the old abbey add a contemplative counterpoint to the historical displays.
