The oldest museum in Ghent, this fine arts collection occupies a neoclassical building beside the city's Citadel Park. Its galleries span the Middle Ages to the mid-twentieth century, with strong holdings of Flemish painting, including works by Bosch and later masters, alongside sculpture and drawings. A calm, top-lit layout arranges the collection chronologically around a central hall. The setting within a leafy park makes it a natural pairing with a walk in the surrounding greenery, a little apart from the medieval centre.
