This monumental former stock exchange in central Brussels was built in the 1870s in an ornate neoclassical style, its facade richly carved with allegorical figures and friezes, some attributed to sculptors including a young Auguste Rodin. Long the trading floor of the Belgian bourse, the building was restored and reopened as a cultural venue with exhibition spaces and a rooftop terrace. It sits on the boulevard that traces the course of a covered river, at a busy crossroads of the lower town. Its grand steps are a popular gathering point.
