One of the few districts of Rotterdam to survive the Second World War largely intact, Delfshaven preserves a canal-side streetscape of gabled houses, warehouses and a windmill. It was from this old harbour that the Pilgrim Fathers set sail in 1620 on the first leg of their voyage to the New World, a departure marked by a church known as the Pilgrim Fathers Church. Small breweries, distilleries and workshops occupy the historic buildings today. The quiet quays offer a glimpse of the pre-war city that the modern centre replaced.
