This small pre-Romanesque church stands on the slopes of Mount Naranco above Oviedo, built in the ninth century as part of a royal complex of the Asturian kings. Though only a fragment of the original survives, its tall, narrow proportions, latticed stone windows and finely carved door jambs depicting circus scenes make it a remarkable example of the distinctive Asturian architecture that flourished when much of Iberia was under Muslim rule. It forms part of the UNESCO-listed group of early monuments overlooking the city.
