This conference and concert hall on the Nervión riverfront in Bilbao was built on the site of the city's last great shipyard, and its rusted steel exterior was deliberately shaped to resemble a ship under construction. Opened in 1999, it hosts the Basque National Orchestra and opera seasons, and its auditoria have earned architectural awards. The building forms part of the chain of landmarks along the regenerated waterfront that includes the Guggenheim and the Zubizuri bridge, symbolising the city's reinvention through bold design.

Where next?
