This fortified medieval bridge spans the Tagus on the western edge of Toledo, guarded at each end by crenellated stone towers that once controlled entry to the city. Built in the fourteenth century to replace an earlier crossing swept away by floods, its main pointed arch was among the largest of its time. The bridge frames a classic view of the rock-perched city and now carries a zip-line alongside its ancient roadway. Illuminated at night, it remains a favourite vantage point for photographers of Toledo's skyline.
