This compact hillside garden sits at the Gaia end of the great double-deck iron bridge across the Douro, offering one of the finest panoramas of Porto's historic centre. Sloping lawns and palm trees frame a view that takes in the cathedral hill, the tumbling old town, river traffic and the bridge itself. The upper deck of the bridge, now used by the city metro, is reached directly from the garden, and at sunset the terraces fill with people watching the light change over the water and the rooftops opposite.
