Standing on the site of the city's Roman forum and later main mosque, this cathedral was built across many centuries, producing a remarkable blend of Romanesque, Gothic, Mudéjar, and Baroque styles. Its exterior is celebrated for an elaborate Mudéjar wall of brick and glazed ceramic decoration. Inside, a soaring Gothic altarpiece in alabaster and polychrome is among the finest in Spain. Often overshadowed by the nearby basilica, it is nonetheless the historic seat of the archdiocese and a monument of the first rank.
