This large covered market beside the river in the old town was rebuilt in the early twentieth century in an Art Deco style and ranks among the largest indoor food markets in Europe. Its long galleries of stalls sell fresh Basque produce, seafood, meats, and cheeses across several floors, with stained glass and geometric detailing adorning the structure. In recent decades part of the space has been given over to bars serving traditional pintxos. The market remains a working centerpiece of local food culture.
