This elegant nineteenth-century square just off La Rambla is enclosed by uniform arcaded buildings with tall palm trees at its center. Laid out on the site of a former convent, it features a central fountain and pair of ornate lampposts designed early in the career of Antoni Gaudí. Restaurants and clubs line the arcades, making it a lively hub by day and night. The harmonious symmetry and Mediterranean atmosphere make it one of the most celebrated public squares in the old city.
