This large maritime museum on the old port of Genoa recounts the city's long relationship with the sea across several floors of ships, models and reconstructions. A full-scale replica of a rowed galley lets visitors imagine the cramped, brutal life of its oarsmen, while other halls trace the age of sail and the great waves of emigration that carried Genoese abroad. A moving section reconstructs the journeys of migrants across the ocean. A submarine moored outside can also be boarded, and a rooftop terrace gives fine views over the harbour.
