This pair of residential towers in the Porta Nuova district became widely known for the trees and shrubs planted across their staggered balconies, forming what the designers called a vertical forest. Completed in the mid-2010s, the buildings were conceived to bring greenery into a dense urban core and to help moderate temperature and air quality. The changing colours of the foliage through the seasons give the towers a shifting look. Although the flats are private, surrounding pedestrian plazas make them easy to admire from below.
