This Baroque palace in Trastevere houses part of Italy's National Gallery of Ancient Art, displayed in rooms that preserve the atmosphere of an eighteenth-century princely residence. The collection ranges over Italian and European painting from the fourteenth to the eighteenth century, with works by Caravaggio, Rubens, Guido Reni, and Fra Angelico. The palace once sheltered Queen Christina of Sweden after her abdication, and it later became a centre of learning that gave rise to a national academy of sciences.
