Standing on the Aventine Hill, this fifth-century basilica is among the best-preserved early Christian churches in Rome, its lofty nave lined with matched Corinthian columns and lit by large clerestory windows of selenite. The wooden entrance doors, carved around 430 AD, include one of the earliest known depictions of the Crucifixion.
