This history and civilisation museum traces the story of Bordeaux and its region from prehistory to the present across an extensive chronological display. Its galleries hold Roman altars and mosaics, medieval carvings, and objects from the era of Atlantic trade that shaped the port's fortunes. A frank section addresses the city's role in the transatlantic slave trade, part of a wider reckoning with its commercial past.
