This grand Renaissance mansion was built for a wealthy dye merchant who made his fortune from the woad plant that once enriched the region. Its refined courtyard, layered with classical columns and carved stonework, is considered the finest private residence of sixteenth-century Toulouse. Today it houses an art foundation whose galleries display paintings, bronzes, and decorative works. The building's elegant proportions and ornamented facades illustrate the prosperity that the pastel trade brought to the city during the Renaissance.
